I agree with you ("...are those that provide emotional value beyond the market value of the gift..."). Once ago I had to deliver a good and highly effective corporate gift. After reading this:

I gave an unique Colombian coffee wine. Both companies (mine and client's) were greatly encouraged to keep working together.

Thanks. It is said that “First impression lasts”. Packaging is most significant. This will apply the first impression to the addressee. A good wrapping will send a message to the receiver that he or she is very essential to you. A poor packaging then again will guarantee the receiver that the thing inside isn't that important, or is of an inferior quality, the receiver could visualize that he's not important to you. So irrespective of the cost of the gift inside the package, it's expected that a corporate gift is packed well. And don’t stick for only one kind of gift. Try something new. Go for techy stuffs to make corporate gift giving even more interesting and beneficial.

The idea of corporate gift giving is really good. I work in an MNC and every year we get lot of gifts on occassions like christmas, thanks giving, mother's day etc. This is a good way for companies to thanks their employees for their success as they would not be able to achieve their targets without employees.
