In-House Proofing with Epson R3000: An Affordable Option for Designers Free Image Manipulation Program – GIMP
Free Vector Graphics Software – Inkscape
From the Inkscape wiki:
“Inkscape is an open-source vector graphics editor similar to Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, Freehand, or Xara X. What sets Inkscape apart is its use of Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), an open XML-based W3C standard, as the native format.”
This is a great program for anyone to use. While it may not have all of the features of some of the other major vector programs, it does contain a large amount of basic editing capabilities.
If you need print work done, this program would be perfect for setting text in vector format, so as to get the best quality when printed.
Inkscape is available for Linux, Windows Xp/Vista/7 and Mac OS X.
